Winter Skincare Routines Need This

When the holidays are over, you can keep your cheery glow in the winter with a few simple tweaks to your usual skin care routine.

It’s common to experience drier, duller skin in the winter months, so if this is you at the moment, don’t worry! It’s normal and you’re not alone.

Luckily there are some products and methods you can use to change this and give your skin the hydration and care it craves.

Why is skin duller in the winter?

Before we jump into what you can do to help your drier, more dull winter skin, let’s talk about why it happens in the first place.

Generally speaking, in the winter we all experience a change in weather, our time spent indoors, and our diets.

The outside air and temperatures drop, along with the moisture levels in the air and our skin feels this change. Dry, cold air simply dehydrates you (and your largest organ - your skin!) causing the flakiness, dry patches, itchiness, or tightness many experience in the winter.

Along with this change in the outside temperatures, we also tend to spend more time indoors where there are heaters that are further drying out our skin.

Lastly, many of us experience a “hibernation” of sorts in the winter and our diets see a change from more fresh, seasonal ingredients to more comforting, warming (and well… processed) foods. This change in diet can affect our skin from the inside out.

What to do about dry, dull winter skin?

So what to do to help change the fate of your winter skin? Try a few of these simple changes to start seeing more bright, rejuvenated skin:

1.Hydration is the name of the game.

Our dry skin starts from the inside out. So one of the best ways you can help your skin look lush again is by staying hydrated in the winter, drinking plenty of water, perhaps even more than you do in the summer!

2. Scrub-a-dub-dub.

Dead skin can build up on the face quickly; to help lift it away, my preferred scrub for this task is Silky Polish

It’s great for all skin types, has powerful resurfacing ingredients so it can exfoliate deeply, and polishes the skin while it’s at it.

Plus, it reduces fine lines and wrinkles, diminishes the appearance of hyperpigmentation (dark spots), and scavenges free radicals to protect skin cells from deterioration - what more could lackluster skin ask for?

3.Avoid hot water for your showers and cleanses.

Hot water simply dries out our skin more, so although it’s nice to take a steamy shower in the winter, try to reduce your usage to help protect your skin!

4.Don’t forget your sunscreen!

We often forget about the sun’s strong rays in the winter, but they can cause skin damage in the winter just as much (and sometimes more) in the winter! Protect your skin by wearing sunscreen everyday, even in the winter.

Of course, in addition to these changes, you’ll want to continue your regular use of a cleanser, serum, and moisturizer - although you may need a more powerful moisturizer in the winter!

Who experiences dryness and dullness in winter?

I’d be remiss to not mention who “winter skin” affects: it’s everyone!

Many people believe that it only happens as we age, but the truth is that even those with oily skin, teenagers, those with skin conditions - we can all experience dry, dull skin.

Best way to get started?

If reading this has you ready to take action in helping your skin, but unsure where to start, may I suggest simply using Silky Polish next time you cleanse your face?

As mentioned, this scrub will help exfoliate the build up occurring from dry, dead skin cells, creating a clean, clear canvas for all your other anti-dullness actions!

Plus, it leaves a polished, refreshed look on it’s own, so it’s a great start!
