Fall Is the Perfect Time to Refresh Your Skin

After some fun months in the sun, have you started to notice some darker skin blotches on your face or body?

These darker spots are commonly known as hyperpigmentation.

You may be seeing hyperpigmentation on your skin more as you age, after time in the sun, or if you are experiencing something that causes a change in hormones, such as pregnancy or menopause.

Please know that hyperpigmentation is normal, we all experience it. However, we can (and should) take some steps to help improve it.

The good news is, as we move into Fall, it’s the perfect time for focusing on your skincare, especially improving any dark spots you have.

To help you with this, below are some steps you can take to rejuvenate your skin this season!

1.Reduce your time in the sun

You may naturally find yourself inside more this Fall season due to the weather, consider that a great break for your skin!

Hyperpigmentation is the darkening of the skin, which occurs, in part, due to sun exposure. Try giving your skin a break from the sun and you’ll see gradual lightening (and a reduction in new or darkening spots).

2. Wear your sunscreen.

We tend to think of sunscreen as something we need only in the warmer months, but the fact is that the sun’s harmful UV rays are strong year-round.

Applying sunscreen daily is a great way to protect your skin and prevent hyperpigmentation, even in these Fall months.

3. Illuminate your skin.

Hyperpigmentation can lead to duller-looking skin. Luckily we have safe products that can help us brighten our skin and revitalize it.

My best tip for repairing your hyperpigmentation is by using something like an Illuminate Facial Pad

These pads can be used up to twice a day, or as directed by your provider. Simply apply them over your face and neck (avoiding your eye area). These brightening pads are also great for the chest and hands.

The Illuminate Pads help to reduce the signs of aging caused by hyperpigmentation, and visibly improve the appearance of sun-damaged skin.

I suggest using these when you begin to notice darker blotches and have been exposed to the sun or are trying to rejuvenate your skin.

4. Add a retinol to your routine

Adding a Retinol Serum, pad, or Retin A into your nightly skin regimen can also be helpful with lightening hyperpigmentation, plus it has the bonus benefit of reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

I often get asked how long it will take to reduce hyperpigmentation, and the truth is that it depends on your skin, the causes, what products you are using to help, and a few other factors.

The simplest answer I can give you is that you can start seeing improvement in just a few months, but in some cases it could take over a year to see significant signs of improvement.

I share this to be honest with you about hyperpigmentation and to urge you to not only protect yourself from the sun’s rays, but to use this Fall as the time to rejuvenate your skin!

You can take advantage of the fact that you will be inside more and naturally protected, giving the products you use the time they need to replenish your skin!

And if you are looking for the simplest way to start reducing your hyperpigmentation (dark spots) now, try out the Illuminating Facial Pads, they are such an innovative way to help your short and long term skin goals!
